DJ, which is currently being rolled out in the United States and Canada for Spotify Premium users, was first announced last week in a Spotify announcement and aims to tailor experiences through AI-powered technology.
The feature will include a "stunningly realistic voice" to accompany "a curated line-up of music" and commentary on the tracks chosen for each individual user. "If you're not feeling the vibe, just tap the DJ button and it will switch it up. The more you listen and tell the DJ what you like (and don't like! ), the more accurate Spotify's recommendations become," Spotify added. "Think of it as the pinnacle of Spotify personalization, but in the form of an AI DJ in your pocket."
Spotify's Head of Cultural Partnerships Xavier 'X' Jernigan took charge of creating the voice model for the new feature after his appearances as host on the streaming giant's personalised morning show, The GetUp. "His personality and voice resonated with our listeners, resulting in a loyal following for the podcast," according to Spotify. "His voice is the first model for the DJ, and we'll keep iterating and innovating, as we do with all of our products."
