POCO C50 Review: Best Entry Level Phone

In India, the company POCO has become very well-known for its low-cost, high-performance smartphones. This time around, the company unveiled the POCO C50, an excellent entry-level smartphone, in India.

The phone has a 6.52-inch IPS LCD display for viewing content, along with a MediaTek Helio A22 CPU that is suitable for daily tasks. The phone has a big 5000mAh battery inside that will provide continuous power.

POCO C50 Price in India

POCO C50 price in India starts from Rs 6499 for the base model with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB storage. The higher model with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage is priced at Rs 7299.

The phone is available in two colour options, Country Green and Royal Blue. The phone is available to buy from Flipkart.

Design

The POCO C50 is no exception to POCO's tradition of having attractive smartphones in its class. From the back, the phone appears to be quite understated and plain. It is as simple as you would anticipate from a budget phone. Instead of using something flashy or vibrant, POCO has an approach that I enjoy.

It has a textured plastic back that resembles leather. I have to admit that it feels fantastic in my hands. Better grip is provided by the textured coating, which also deters fingerprints. The phone's 192-gram body weight makes it easy to carry and use for extended periods of time.

Comparing it to other phones in this price range, the POCO C50 looks and feels significantly better overall. There is not an IP rating, so stay away from water.

Display

The HD+ 6.52-inch IPS LCD screen on the POCO C50 is available. Nothing spectacular is present. It has a max brightness of 400 nits and a typical 60Hz refresh rate.

The display quality is only ok aside from that. Although the colours appear excellent, the crispness and details are lacking. Although I didn't particularly like watching videos on YouTube, your grandparents will undoubtedly appreciate it. On the other hand, it has a sufficient display for messaging and reading.

I experienced no significant shutters while navigating the UI, and the touch response is good. The bezels are a little thick overall, with the usual bigger chin at the button. You receive a water drop notch on the top, which although it is a little antiquated, is adequate for the price.

Performance and Software

A MediaTek Helio A22 CPU, up to 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage power the POCO C50. It doesn't perform as well as other POCO devices. It is mainly geared toward novice users who simply wish to carry out daily tasks like calling, messaging, and other things.

The routine tasks are managed reasonably adequately. The phone occasionally lags but there are no significant lags or app crashes. As there is not enough RAM to operate many apps, I would not advise using it for multitasking. The most you can do is use Chrome for browsing while keeping WhatsApp open in the background.

I'm referring to the 3GB RAM model, which has trouble running heavy apps like Instagram and Facebook. And speaking of gaming, you have no trouble playing titles like Temple Run, Candy Crush, and Subway Surfers. But don't anticipate anything more from it.

The Android 12 Go Edition, which was created specifically for low-end handsets, is used by the Poco C50. POCO made the right choice by choosing this simplified version of Android OS over its own MIUI shell. It has a pretty clean appearance and basically has the vanilla Android feel.

Only the lite version of several programmes are pre-installed, and there aren't many third-party or superfluous ones. All of this ensures that the phone functions properly.

Camera

I didn't have high expectations for the camera because this is an entry-level smartphone, and you shouldn't either. An 8MP primary camera and a depth lens are included in the POCO C50's twin camera arrangement on the back. For selfies and video calls, a 5MP camera is housed in the water drop notch.

In excellent daylight, the 8MP camera produces passable images. Despite the photographs' lack of sharpness and detail, they look fine until you zoom in. The colours are very nicely done. HDR mode produced better-looking photos.

The quality of the image, however, significantly degrades as the light level decreases. Low-light photographs had terrible colours and were extremely blurry. The pictures lacked clarity and detail.

In bright daylight, the 5MP front camera's selfies were passable. When the light goes out, though, the same thing occurs.

The phone's main camera can capture films in 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second. Although the output was choppy, the footage was acceptable.

Battery

The POCO C50 has a sizable 5000mAh battery and 10W charging. The battery life on the phone is incredible. With light usage, you can easily get two days of battery backup. Instagram may be used for a complete day by even a heavy user who spends the entire day scrolling around the app.

The low resolution display and less power-hungry chipset are the causes of this fantastic battery life. I was able to watch for around 6 hours, which is excellent. My usage included some Instagram scrolling, phone calls, and photo taking.

So, yes, fantastic battery life, but on the other hand, a very slow charging rate. You receive a 10W converter and a micro USB cable in the box, which you may use to charge the phone. To fully charge the phone from 0% to 100%, the 10W charger needs roughly two hours.

I realise it's been a while, but you can put the charger away for the next two days.

POCO C50 Verdict

For about Rs. 6.5K, the POCO C50 seems like an excellent entry-level phone that can do all daily chores. It has a good appearance and is light in the hands. The MediaTek Helio A22 can deliver a respectable level of speed and manage calls, photo-taking, and light web surfing with ease.

In bright daylight, the 8MP is just adequate to capture decent photographs. The clarity of the display is excellent. The contents don't appear as sharp as they would on an FHD display because of the HD+ display. I was quite pleased with the phone's battery life.

In the end, the POCO C50 is a perfect phone if you want it as a secondary device or if you want something for your grandparents who are not into much tech.
