iPhone 17 Series May See Price Hike Amid Ongoing Discounts
Apple is reportedly preparing a mid-cycle price hike for the iPhone 17 lineup due to rising component costs, even as retailers offer limited-time discounts.

Apple may increase the price of the iPhone 17 series as soon as today, according to a new leak. The information comes at a time when Independence Day sales are offering discounts on the latest iPhones at major retailers. The claim originates from Weibo-based tipster Fixed Focus Digital, who stated that rumors suggest an iPhone 17 price hike could take effect on August 10. However, there is no official confirmation from Apple, and the tipster has not guaranteed the change. This makes the report uncertain, but the possibility remains significant.

Key Highlights

  • Rumors suggest Apple may increase iPhone 17 prices as soon as August 10.
  • Current Independence Day sales offer discounts up to Rs 16,000 on iPhone 17 models.
  • iPhone 17 series launched at higher prices than iPhone 16 with increased base storage.
  • Apple previously raised prices for other products due to higher memory and storage costs.

Current Discounts and Price Details

Currently, the iPhone 17 is listed on Flipkart's mobile app for Rs 81,900, down from its Rs 82,900 launch price. Buyers receive a flat Rs 1,000 discount. Flipkart Axis Bank and Flipkart SBI card holders can get an additional Rs 4,000 off, while other SBI card users receive Rs 2,000 off. The iPhone 17 Pro is available for Rs 1,26,900, compared to its Rs 1,34,900 launch price. This represents an Rs 8,000 reduction, with eligible card users able to claim an extra Rs 8,000 off, totaling up to Rs 16,000 in discounts. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is listed at Rs 1,41,900, down from Rs 1,49,900 at launch, and offers the same bank discounts as the Pro model.

Background on Price Increases

Earlier this year, Apple raised prices for several products, including Macs, iPads, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, and HomePod, by up to Rs 1 lakh. The company attributed these increases to higher memory and storage costs. However, Apple did not change iPhone prices at that time, nor did it adjust prices for the Apple Watch or AirPods. This led to expectations that any iPhone price revision would occur closer to the launch of new models. The latest rumor suggests Apple may act sooner than previously thought.

Comparing iPhone 17 and iPhone 16 Prices

The iPhone 17 series already launched at higher prices compared to the iPhone 16 series in India. The iPhone 16 started at Rs 79,900, while the iPhone 17 launched at Rs 82,900. The newer model offers 256GB of base storage, up from 128GB in the previous version. The iPhone 17 Pro launched at Rs 1,34,900, compared to Rs 1,19,900 for the iPhone 16 Pro. The iPhone 17 Pro Max started at Rs 1,49,900, up from Rs 1,44,900 for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. If Apple raises prices again, buyers may face another increase on top of these higher launch prices.

Uncertainty Remains Over Price Hike

The rumored August 10 price increase comes from a Chinese tipster and lacks confirmation from other major sources. Previous reports also suggested a price hike in early August, which did not occur. There is no confirmation that the hike will happen today or that all iPhone 17 models will be affected. With discounts currently available, buyers considering an iPhone 17 should monitor prices closely before the day ends.
