Meta has acquired Assured Robot Intelligence, a robotics AI startup, to strengthen its work in humanoid technology. The deal was completed on Friday, but the financial terms have not been disclosed. Assured Robot Intelligence is recognized for developing AI models that help robots understand and adapt to human behavior in complex environments.
Bloomberg reports that Meta described Assured Robot Intelligence as being at the forefront of robotic intelligence. The startup's team, including co-founders Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang, will join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs research division. They will also collaborate with Meta Robotics Studio, which was established last year to focus on humanoid robot technologies.
Both co-founders bring significant experience to Meta. Xiaolong Wang previously worked as a researcher at Nvidia. Lerrel Pinto co-founded Fauna Robotics and left the company in 2025. Earlier this year, Amazon acquired Fauna Robotics to boost its own robotics initiatives.
Meta is increasing its investment in humanoid robots, which are designed to move and function like humans. These robots are expected to assist with physical tasks. The company’s robotics division is developing both hardware and software for humanoid robots. This includes sensors, software, and other technologies that may be used by other firms.
According to a Meta spokesperson, the new team will contribute expertise in designing models and advanced capabilities for robot control and self-learning. Their work will focus on whole-body humanoid control, a key area for future robotic applications.
Interest in humanoid robots is growing across the technology sector. Companies such as Tesla, Google, and Amazon are also developing similar projects. Meta aims to create a foundation for the robotics industry, similar to how Android and Qualcomm technologies shaped the smartphone market.
The acquisition reflects a broader trend of major technology companies investing in robotics and artificial intelligence. Meta’s long-term goal is to provide core technologies that can drive the development of humanoid robots across the industry. By integrating the Assured Robot Intelligence team, Meta seeks to advance its research and development in this field.
