The open beta for Nothing OS 5.0 begins with the Nothing Phone (3) on August 26. The general public release for this model is scheduled for mid-October. In early November, the Nothing Phone (4a), Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, Nothing Phone (3a), and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro will receive the update. The Nothing Phone (2a) and Nothing Phone (2a) Plus are set to get the update in mid-November. The Nothing Phone (3a) Lite will follow in late December. Finally, the Nothing Phone (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro will receive the update in mid-January next year.
The full changelog for Nothing OS 5.0 is extensive. Some of the most notable changes include a refreshed visual design and a new system font. The Settings menu has been redesigned, and the status bar now appears cleaner. The camera app offers easier QR scanning. The Gallery app introduces new sorting options. Users will notice a new default home screen theme with transparent widget details and subtle color tints on icons. The lock screen features new clock faces and more color options.
Nothing OS 5.0 introduces a dedicated Glyph app and more natural system animations. Bluetooth controls and Essential Voice are now faster. Essential Space gains MCP support. The update adds a new Essential Apps Builder app. Notifications and Quick Settings are now separated. Quick Share has been enhanced, and screen recording has improved. Users will also see live updates in the status bar and improvements to the Recents view.
The company states that more devices will join the beta program over the coming months. Each device will receive the update according to the announced schedule. The rollout aims to bring the latest Android 17 features and visual improvements to the Nothing device lineup.
