Recent leaks have revealed new details about upcoming flagship mobile chipsets. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and the Dimensity 9600 Pro are set to introduce significant improvements in processing power and efficiency. Both chips will use advanced manufacturing technology and updated core designs.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro will be manufactured using TSMC’s 2nm N2P process. This represents a step forward from previous 3nm chips. The CPU will feature eight cores arranged as follows: two Prime cores at 5.01GHz, three performance cores at 4.03GHz, and three efficiency cores at 3.74GHz. This marks an increase in clock speeds compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which had two cores at 4.61GHz and six at 3.63GHz.
The new chipset will include the Adreno 850 GPU, which is expected to have three slices and 18MB of graphics memory. It will also feature 8MB of Last Level Cache (LLC). These enhancements aim to improve both gaming and general performance.
Qualcomm plans to release a non-Pro version of this chipset, known as the SM8950. This model will also use a 2+3+3 CPU configuration, but specific clock speeds have not been confirmed. The non-Pro variant will include an Adreno 845 GPU with two slices and 12MB of graphics memory, along with 6MB of LLC.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro will also be produced on TSMC’s N2P node. Unlike Qualcomm’s custom cores, this chipset will use Arm-designed cores. The configuration includes two Canyon cores at 4.55GHz, three Gelas-b cores at 4.35GHz, and three Gelas cores at 3.10GHz. These code names likely correspond to Arm’s C2-Ultra, C2-Premium, and C1-Pro cores, respectively.
For graphics, the Dimensity 9600 Pro will use the Arm G2-Ultra NX MC12 GPU. This GPU features 16 cores divided into two clusters: eight traditional GPU cores and eight with NX tensor acceleration. The tensor cores are designed to support tasks like image upscaling and frame generation, which are important for gaming and advanced imaging.
The G2-Ultra NX MC12 GPU was previously seen in the Xiaomi Xring O3 chip, indicating a focus on both performance and AI capabilities.
Both the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro and Dimensity 9600 Pro represent major upgrades over their predecessors. They use advanced 2nm manufacturing processes and updated CPU and GPU architectures. Qualcomm’s chip focuses on higher clock speeds and increased graphics memory, while MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600 Pro emphasizes Arm’s latest core designs and AI features.
Official details from Qualcomm and MediaTek are still pending. However, these leaks provide a clear look at the direction of next-generation flagship mobile processors.
