Samsung’s tandem OLED display reaches VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification with 1,400+ nits peak brightness, debuting on Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i.

Samsung has announced that its new OLED display has received the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification. This certification increases the brightness requirement by 40% compared to the previous top standard, raising the peak to 1,400 nits. Samsung is already supplying these advanced panels to laptop manufacturers.

Key Highlights

  • Samsung's new OLED display achieves VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification.
  • Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition features the certified 16-inch 3.2K 120Hz OLED panel.
  • Tandem OLED design doubles panel lifespan and improves brightness.
  • Other brands like Asus, Dell, and MSI to launch laptops with this display in late 2026.

Certification Details and Display Technology

The VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification requires black pixels to remain at or below 0.0005 nits. At the same time, white pixels must reach 1,400 nits at a 10% On Pixel Ratio, meaning 10% of the screen displays white while the rest remains black. Samsung achieved this with a tandem OLED design, which stacks two OLED panels. This approach not only enables higher peak brightness but also reduces stress on the panels during regular use.

According to Samsung, the tandem design allows the new OLED panel to last more than twice as long as a single-stack OLED panel under typical laptop brightness conditions. The company also introduced new organic emissive materials to further enhance performance and extend panel longevity.

Integration in Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition

The new OLED panel is featured in the 11th generation Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition. This laptop uses a 16-inch touchscreen with a 3.2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Branded as PureSight Pro Tandem OLED by Lenovo, the display holds the VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification. At peak, it can reach 1,600 nits of brightness.

The display also offers accurate color reproduction, covering 100% of sRGB and DCI-P3 color spaces and 99% of AdobeRGB. The laptop can be configured with an Intel Core Ultra 7 or 9 processor (356H or 386H) and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050 or 5060 laptop GPU, each with 8GB of VRAM. System memory is 32GB of LPDDR5X running at 7,467MT/s, and storage options include either a 512GB or 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD (TLC). The device measures 17.2mm in thickness and weighs 1.9kg, featuring a 92.5Wh battery.

Future Adoption and Demonstration

Other laptop manufacturers, including Asus, Dell, and MSI, are expected to adopt Samsung's new tandem OLED display in models launching in the second half of the year. Samsung plans to showcase the new panel at K-Display 2026, scheduled in Seoul from July 22 to July 24.
