So your wait is finally over, because Instagram has launched a dedicated app for the iPad. As you are aware, the Instagram app that runs on the iPad has never been smooth to use because it is an iPhone version; whenever you use that app, a small screen appears on the iPad screen. However, on September 3, 2025, Instagram launched a dedicated app for the iPad that will accommodate the iPad's screen ratio. Now, iPad owners can download that app, which will run more smoothly.

Reel Centric UI

So, when you open the Instagram app for iPad, it will take you to the reel feed, indicating that Meta wants people to pay more attention to short videos. Although other options, such as stories, will appear at the top, the reels will capture the majority of the attention.

New "Followers" Tab

Instagram also added a following tab to the app, making some of this easier to access.

  • All - This is the update section, which displays all of the main notifications, such as follow notifications and recommendations.

  • Friends - This will display all of the highlights that your friends have posted, just like the normal Instagram app.

  • Latest -This is the main and common screen where you see the latest posts that are posted by the people you follow.

This also includes a feature that allows you to rearrange these features or options according to your preferences.

The bigger screens

So Instagram will now take full advantage of the iPad's display, allowing you to see direct messages and notifications on the main screen, which will appear alongside the reels and will not disturb the Video and Photo grid. These features will make the experience smoother and more enjoyable than before. This new app is completely free for users with iOS 15.1 or higher.

Why should this matter?

So this problem has been raised by iPad users for a long time—that they require a dedicated app for the iPad—but Instagram has always claimed that this is not a problem that can be treated as a priority, but as time passed and all of the short videos became popular, they took it as a priority and launched a dedicated app for iPad users, increasing engagement across the app.

Reactions: Mixed

Although some people in the public believe that this is a very useful launch and are pleased with it, others are disappointed because the app is more video focused, whereas they are looking for the same simple Instagram as the movie, which is picture first.
