Instagram's CEO, Adam Mosseri, has explained how content is ranked on the platform. Posts and Reels are ranked based on user activity, while Stories are ranked based on user engagement frequency.
Instagram is also testing a transparency notification for creators, informing them when the reach of their Reels may be limited due to watermarks. This notification aims to help creators understand why some of their Reels may not be shown to non-followers.
The concept of shadowbanning was addressed by the CEO in a recent blog post. Shadowbanning refers to the hiding of a user's content by a platform without providing an explanation. Mosseri emphasized that Instagram's priority is to ensure that creators can reach their audiences and thrive on the platform. The platform does not suppress content to push users to buy ads; instead, it focuses on promoting engaging and interesting content to enhance user experience.
Acknowledging user concerns about shadowbanning, Mosseri stated that Instagram needs to do more to help users understand it. To address this, the company expanded its Account Status Hub, making it easier for businesses and creators to understand their content's eligibility for recommendations.
