Honor has rapidly advanced in humanoid robot technology, achieving a major milestone at the 2025 half marathon event. The company's robot completed the 21-kilometer race in 50 minutes and 26 seconds, surpassing both the human winner and the previous world record.
At the 2025 half marathon, only 6 out of 21 robots finished the race. Most robots either stumbled or overheated, highlighting the challenge of such events. Last year, the winning robot took 2 hours and 40 minutes to finish, which was twice as long as the fastest human participant. This year, Honor's robot completed the distance in just 50 minutes and 26 seconds. This time was over 10 minutes faster than the top human runner at the event and broke the previous world record of 56 minutes and 42 seconds, set by Ugandan athlete Jacob Kiplimo in 2024.
The half marathon tested both the robots' endurance and navigation abilities. Of the participating robots, 40% navigated the course autonomously, while the rest were remote-controlled. Honor's robots were among the autonomous group and achieved top results. One Honor robot won the gold medal, another took silver, and a third secured bronze. Other participants included the Tiangong Ultra 2026 and Unitree H1 robots.
China is actively promoting innovation in humanoid robotics. The country is currently testing robots in various roles, such as factory workers, home assistants, and even soldiers. These trials aim to explore the potential uses and capabilities of humanoid robots in different environments.
