The upcoming wave of flagship Android devices will mainly feature chipsets from Qualcomm or MediaTek. Recent information reveals new details about theMediaTek Dimensity 9600, the company's next flagship system-on-chip (SoC).
MediaTek's Dimensity 9600 will be built using a 2nm process node. The manufacturer has not confirmed if the fabrication will use TSMC’s N2P or Samsung’s SF2 technology. The chipset will use a 2+3+3 all-big core CPU architecture. This design aims to deliver strong single-core performance, reportedly on par with Apple’s leading A-series chips.
There is no confirmation if the comparison is with the current Apple A19 Pro or the upcoming A20 chip. Specific clock speeds for the Dimensity 9600 have not been disclosed at this stage.
MediaTek will introduce improved Compute Matrix Engine (CME) and Scalable Matrix Extension (SME) features in the Dimensity 9600. The company does not plan significant changes to the cache structure. On the graphics side, the Dimensity 9600 is expected to offer advantages over other 2nm chips. These include native frame interpolation, resolution upscaling, and enhanced ray-tracing performance.
The first devices powered by the Dimensity 9600 are anticipated to launch in September. This release window aligns with the expected debut of the first Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 phones. Both chipsets will likely compete in the same segment of flagship Android smartphones and tablets.
MediaTek and Qualcomm remain the primary suppliers for high-end Android device chipsets. Their latest offerings will shape the performance standards for the next generation of flagship devices.
