In a demonstration of Tongyi Qianwen, the chatbot was shown performing various tasks such as writing invitation letters, planning travel itineraries, and offering makeup recommendations to customers. This proves the versatility of the chatbot and its potential applications.
Alibaba Chairman and CEO Daniel Zhang stated that "We are at a technological watershed moment driven by generative artificial intelligence and cloud computing" during the livestreamed launch event. He also expressed his belief that this technology will revolutionize the way people produce, work, and even live.
Initially, Tongyi Qianwen will be added to DingTalk, Alibaba's workplace messaging app. It will also be incorporated into Tmall Genie, which is Alibaba's voice assistant. According to Zhang, chatbots like Tongyi Qianwen are critical in making AI more pervasive in the future. The Tongyi Qianwen API is currently available for beta testing for developers in China.
It's worth noting that other Chinese companies like Baidu have also introduced their own versions of AI-powered chatbots such as Ernie Bot. However, these are only available to trial users. It seems that the competition in the AI chatbot market in China is heating up as more and more companies are developing their own models to offer more personalized and efficient customer service.
