According to a recent report, the foldable smartphone market in India is expected to surpass Rs 6,300 crore in sales, adding around 1.8% of aggregate smartphone sales. The techARC, a leading market research firm, predicts that over 6.35 lakhs of foldable smartphones will be sold out by this year, a little less than 0.5% in overall sales volume. The same research report also states that the foldable form factor will reach one million in annual sales by 2025 and will likely double by 2028.
The affordable foldable smartphone segment, foldable phones priced below Rs 80,000, is anticipated to be the key driver in this rapid growth. It's expected that the affordable foldable smartphone segment will share around 52% of total sales in this entire segment.
In India, foldable mobiles are available in mainly two variants, H-fold (the flip smartphones) and V-fold (the book fold smartphones). According to the report, flip smartphones will contribute around 64% of annual sales.
Many smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, Motorola, Tecno, and OPPO have launched their foldable phones in the Indian market. Some of the popular foldable mobile phones available in India are Motorola Razr 40 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4, Tecno Phantom V Fold, Motorola Razr 40, and OPPO Find N2 Flip.
Furthermore, one of the leading players in this segment, Samsung, is set to launch the refined versions of its foldable smartphones in India, featuring next-generation foldable screen technology, flagship chipset, and other top-end features.
In recent years, foldable smartphone brands have made significant efforts to improve the quality and durability issues of their smartphones, but still, they need to increase awareness and educate customers about the technology behind these mobile phones.
With improved quality, attractive features, and customer education, the foldable smartphone market in India is expected to gain even more attention in the coming years.
