New Features

AI-powered Bing into taskbar Search

Windows 11's taskbar has a search feature that allows users to search for system settings or web results. Microsoft has announced that the search feature will now include AI-powered Bing, which will provide faster and more accurate results. Microsoft has been incorporating AI capabilities into Bing, Edge, and Skype, enabling users to receive answers to their questions conversationally, similar to ChatGPT. However, unlike ChatGPT, Bing AI provides citations. It is possible that the search feature on the Windows 11 taskbar will operate similarly. According to Microsoft, only those with access to Bing AI preview will be able to use this feature in the latest Windows 11 version.

Phone Link for iOS in Preview

Microsoft is slowly introducing a new capability that enables users to access their iPhone data directly on a Windows PC. The latest Phone Link for iOS allows users to connect their iPhone to a Windows PC, which syncs with their iPhone, allowing them to make calls or view text messages on their computer. However, this feature will initially only be available to users on the Windows Insider programme (beta). It is unknown when this feature will be available to all users.

Improved Widgets and Windows Studio Effects

Windows 11 introduced Widgets, which allow users to check updates on sports matches, stocks, the weather, and their schedule. Microsoft is now expanding the widgets to include access to Phone Link, Xbox Game Pass, and Meta and Spotify. The Windows Studio Effects tool, which uses AI to enhance the calling feature, will now be included in the taskbar's quick settings. However, this feature depends on the hardware, which means not all PCs will receive the update. Additionally, the Snipping tool now has a screen recording capability. To use this feature, open the Snipping Tool and select record. Microsoft claims that the recordings will be automatically saved to a default folder.
