The leaks regarding the Galaxy S23 come from Twitter leaker Yogesh Brar. He has a good track record of leaks but describes the specs as "rumoured," so there's no guarantee the phone will be exactly like that. There are two major things, first, the phone will be powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which is yet to be announced. This is expected to be a significant improvement in both performance and efficiency compared to the S22's Gen 1.
Samsung has this time proposed to use this chip more widely instead of its own Exynos processor which was used in some regions including Europe. It's not confirmed yet, but it will be a big upgrade for these users in the Exynos region.
Similar to the aforementioned efficiency improvements, there's a slightly larger battery of 3900mAh versus the S22's 3700mAh cell. Battery life has been a weak point of the Galaxy flagship for a while, so hopefully, these changes combine to bring some big improvements in this area. The signs point to a gradual update - same screen specs, same camera, same RAM and storage options, and same loading speeds.
The big selling point of mobile phones seems to be faster performance. Another leak claims to show early benchmark results for the US version of the S23. Geekbench 5 scores 1524 for single core and 4597 for multicore, while S22 is around 1100 and 3700 respectively. Of course, it's not far from the iPhone 14, which still uses last year's chip. With the new A16 Bionic processor, the iPhone 14 Pro still has a large lead over its competitors and it seems to be the case for some more time.
Given Samsung’s track record, the S23 series is most likely to launch in January or February of 2023. We can expect more details as we come close to the launch of the devices.
