Vivo has launched the V80 in India parallel to the S2 FE. The phone's main draws are a bright, smooth display, a very large battery and a ZEISS-tuned camera setup.
The back carries what Vivo calls a "Floating Camera Module", a fresh take on the classic square camera block. It houses three ZEISS-tuned cameras, an LED flash and an Aura Light.
The Sunrise Anthem colour is the standout, since its shade changes with the light and viewing angle. Horizon Blue and Stellar Black are the quieter options. With a glass back and a matte aluminium frame, the phone feels premium and is easy to use with one hand.
The display is sharp and slim-bezelled, with a centred punch-hole for the selfie camera. It peaks at 5,000 nits locally and dims to 1 nit for comfortable reading at night. You can pick 60, 90, 120 or 144Hz, though 144Hz is reserved for gaming. The ultrasonic fingerprint scanner works well, though the reviewer noticed a slight lag after unlocking now and then.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is the same chip used in the V70 and V60 so this is a refinement rather than a leap. Memory options are 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 8GB/512GB. The software is clean, with just one pre-installed third-party app, Booking.com.
The V80 has four ZEISS co-developed cameras:
Features include 4K Cinematic Video, an AI Creative Camera, AI Diwali Portrait 2.0 and ZEISS Multifocal Portrait with five focal lengths.
The 7,200mAh silicon-carbon cell is a big jump from the V70's 6,500mAh. In testing, 90W charging took the phone from 1% to 50% in 32 minutes and to full in just over an hour. Bypass charging is also supported, and the battery should comfortably last a full day.
