Chinese smartphone and home appliances maker Xiaomi on Tuesday unveiled a new concept smartphone that can be fitted with a full-frame camera lens. The promo clip combines the Xiaomi 12S Ultra Concept smartphone with the Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH module for a "click and twist" installation.
The 12S Ultra Concept uses the M mount, which Xiaomi confirmed with the Android Authority, so the M lenses from manufacturers like Canon and Sigma could theoretically work as well. The phone has two 1-inch camera sensors and also has software features such as focus peaking, zebra stripes and histograms.
Xiaomi didn't respond to a request for comment, but the Android Authority said the attachment was just a prototype of the company's 12S Ultra released in July and is "not available in stores."
Developed in collaboration with Leica, the 12S Ultra features a 1-inch rear camera sensor, much larger than most phones. Engadget says only 10 went into production, priced at over $41,000.
