Realme has confirmed that its smartphones in India will now launch with ColorOS 17, moving away from its own Realme UI. The company stated this change aims to streamline operations and simplify the update process for users. Realme did not specify which model will be the first to feature ColorOS 17, but indicated that Oppo smartphones will receive the update before Realme devices.
Earlier this month, reports suggested Realme UI would merge with Oppo's ColorOS to reduce research and development costs. Realme India has now confirmed the transition, stating that all future Realme smartphones in India will come with ColorOS 17 pre-installed. This move is expected to make software updates more efficient and consistent across devices.
ColorOS 17 will also be rolled out to existing Realme smartphones that are eligible for operating system upgrades. For instance, devices that launched last year with Realme UI 7.0 and were promised four Android OS upgrades will receive updates to ColorOS 17 and subsequent versions.
From a user perspective, the experience is not expected to change significantly. Realme UI and ColorOS share many similarities, and differences between the two are minimal. In fact, early Realme smartphones originally launched with ColorOS before the company developed its own user interface.
Currently, the Oppo Find X9 Ultra runs on ColorOS 16, while the Realme GT 8 Pro operates on Realme UI 7. The first Realme smartphone to launch with Realme UI out of the box marked a shift for the brand, but this new move brings Realme back to its ColorOS roots.
Realme India's confirmation applies specifically to the Indian market. However, it is likely that other regions will adopt the same approach in the future. The company has not provided a timeline for when ColorOS 17 will be available on existing devices, but eligible models will receive the update as part of their promised software support.
The transition to ColorOS 17 is part of Realme's strategy to optimize resources and deliver a more unified software experience. Users can expect continued support and updates, with a focus on maintaining consistency across Realme and Oppo devices.
