YouTube has expanded its in-app messaging and video sharing feature to more countries, including the US, the UK, Brazil, and Singapore. This feature was first tested in November in Ireland and Poland, then launched in additional European countries in March.
YouTube users in the newly added regions can now access in-app messaging and video sharing. To use these features, users must be at least 18 years old, signed in to their YouTube channel, and have the latest version of the YouTube app. The feature is available on Android devices, iPhones, and iPads.
The in-app messaging function allows users to have conversations within the YouTube mobile app. Users can share long-form videos, YouTube Shorts, and live streams directly with others through the app. This makes it easier to discuss and share content without leaving the platform.
YouTube's messaging feature includes several controls for user privacy and management. Users can unsend a message by long-pressing on it and selecting "Unsend." This removes the message from the conversation for both parties. Users can also delete entire conversations from their own device, though this action does not remove the conversation for the other participant.
Additionally, users have the option to block others within the app. Blocking prevents further messages from the blocked user. These controls give users more flexibility and security when using the in-app messaging feature.
The feature supports both Android and iOS devices, including iPhones and iPads. YouTube continues to expand the list of countries where in-app messaging and video sharing are available. Users can check the official YouTube help page for the most up-to-date list of supported regions.
With this expansion, YouTube aims to make sharing and discussing videos more convenient for users around the world. The rollout reflects YouTube's ongoing efforts to enhance user engagement and communication within its mobile app.
