Amazon's Prime Video will become the first streaming service to introduce Samsung's new HDR10+ Advanced format. The rollout will begin later this month and will be available on supported titles worldwide. Viewers will need a Samsung TV from the company's 2026 lineup to experience the new format.
HDR10+ Advanced is an upgrade to the existing HDR10+ format. The main enhancement is Enhanced Overall Brightness. This feature uses extended statistical metadata to maximize the brightness capabilities of premium TVs. According to Samsung, it delivers brighter and more precise HDR across the full tonal range.
The format also introduces AI-driven tone mapping. This technology helps preserve shadow detail in darker scenes. It also delivers the increased brightness needed for sports and action content. The goal is to provide a more accurate and dynamic viewing experience, especially in challenging lighting conditions.
Another new feature is Intelligent Motion Smoothing. This function uses scene-by-scene metadata to let compatible displays adjust motion processing dynamically. Samsung states that this preserves the cinematic feel of films while ensuring smooth, natural motion for sports, action, and other fast-moving scenes.
Prime Video's adoption of HDR10+ Advanced continues its history of early support for HDR formats. The service was also the first to offer HDR10+ in December 2017. This ongoing partnership with Samsung highlights the companies' commitment to delivering advanced picture quality to viewers.
To access HDR10+ Advanced, users must have a Samsung TV from the 2026 lineup. The format will not be available on older models. Supported titles will be accessible globally, allowing a wide range of Prime Video subscribers to benefit from the improved visual experience.
Samsung's official press release emphasizes that HDR10+ Advanced is designed to make full use of modern TV technology. The format aims to enhance both brightness and motion handling, providing benefits for a variety of content types, from films to live sports.
Prime Video's early adoption of HDR10+ Advanced may influence other streaming platforms to consider the format. However, for now, the feature remains exclusive to Prime Video and Samsung's upcoming TVs. The collaboration marks another milestone in the evolution of high dynamic range technology in home entertainment.
As the rollout begins later this month, viewers with compatible Samsung TVs can expect to see improved brightness, detail, and motion handling on select Prime Video titles. This development underscores the ongoing advancements in streaming video quality and display technology.
