Spending a lot of money on television will inevitably make you want to shop around and ensure you're receiving the best. The decision is much more difficult now than it was a few years ago, in part because new screen technologies like Mini-LED have changed the traditional dynamics of the premium TV market. Despite this, OLED televisions continue to be more expensive and have superior capabilities to those of the competition.

The LG C2, which replaces the well-liked C1 and CX, promises enhanced performance and capabilities in addition to the advantages that OLED screen technology normally offers for televisions. Is this the greatest premium 55-inch television you can now get in India for approx. Rs 2,00,000? Learn more from this review.

Design and specifications for the LG C2 55-inch OLED TV (OLED55C2PSC)

There are several sizes of the LG C2 series available, from 42 inches (priced at Rs. 1,39,990) to 83 inches. Regardless of size, all televisions in the series are Ultra-HD (3840x2160 pixels) OLED TVs with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and they share a lot of the same features and specs. On the TV, Dolby Vision IQ and Dolby Atmos are supported.

The 55-inch C2 TV is nowhere near as attractive to look at as the similarly priced Samsung 55QN95B. LG's C-series televisions aren't normally recognized for their blooming, luxurious design. It's still a well-made television, though, with a thin profile at the edges, accessible connections and sockets, and narrow display borders that let you concentrate on what's on the screen.

On the front of the TV, there are no markings whatsoever, not even an LG brand. The only button at the bottom is the power button, which is on a module with the status light and IR receiver. Even with the TV placed on the wall, all of the connections and sockets are located to the left of the screen and are simple to access.

The LG C2 55-inch television weighs 14.4kg with the centre stand that comes in the box compared to 12.7kg without. The TV has a compact footprint and can be put on even a small table thanks to the stand's design. The wall-mount kit for the TV is not included in the package, but it is available during the free installation by the manufacturer.

The LG C2 55-inch TV comes with a variety of ports and sockets, including four HDMI ports (all of which support 4K at 120Hz resolution and one of which supports eARC), three USB Type-A ports, LAN, optical digital audio-out, a single AV-in socket that must be used with an adapter, antenna and cable sockets, and an analogue socket for an IR blaster. Notably, the TV does not support wired headphones.

NVIDIA G-sync, variable refresh rate (VRR), and AMD FreeSync are additional features that support gaming. The LG C2 features a rated sound output of 40W for its 2.2-channel speaker system and supports dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5. The TV is driven by LG's a9 Gen 5 AI processor 4K, which makes a variety of AI-based functions possible and is said to enhance the viewing experience.

Features of the LG C2 55-inch OLED TV (OLED55C2PSC) remote

lg_55c2_features (1).jpg The 55-inch C2 TV comes with LG's innovative magic remote, which has proven to be a popular remote concept. It is a full-sized device with a bottom-heavy design for enhanced handling and maneuverability, which are essential for its wand-like features. You can point and click using the remote's floating cursor that is created on the TV's screen. The remote is simple to use and will help you navigate the interface quickly; however, if you prefer, you may stay with the conventional d-pad, scroll wheel, and button controls.

Along with dedicated buttons for Google Assistant and Alexa, the remote includes hotkeys for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, and these streaming services. It's helpful to be able to use both voice assistants on the TV at once, which isn't something I see very often. With buttons to manage power, volume, source selection, and open the settings menu from anywhere in the user interface (UI) or even when content is playing, the rest of the remote is rather conventional.

Support for Apple AirPlay and HomeKit, hands-free voice control, and LG's AI ThinQ suite, which can sense the environment, including light levels and other factors, to adjust the picture and sound for the circumstances, are additional features on the LG C2 television. Additionally, you can connect the TV to the LG ThinQ app on your smartphone, which enables you to control the TV's settings and use the phone as a remote control among other things.

Software and user interface for the LG C2 55-inch OLED TV (OLED55C2PSC)

LG C2 oled TV.jpg After initially being developed for Palm devices, LG's webOS platform has advanced significantly over time and is now the standard operating system for their TVs. In the last year or two, it has even undergone a significant transformation, with a greater emphasis on content curation and recommendations. The Settings and Source selection menus, for example, continue to appear as overlays on some interface elements, but the majority of the interface takes up the whole screen.

This features the Home Dashboard, which provides rapid access to AirPlay and any connected IoT devices via the LG ThinQ app and displays connected devices as a tile display. Pressing the home button will now pause what is playing, unlike in the past, because the primary smart TV interface is now a full-screen affair with tiles for the weather, content recommendations, apps, and the web browser.

Many of the popular apps that you'd expect to find on a smart TV, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar, are already installed. Others, which have been optimized for the big screen, can be downloaded from the app library. There are also numerous games, social media apps, and tools available. Although not as well-organized or extensive as the Google Play store for Android TV, the webOS app library is adequate, and apps work just as well on the platform as they do on other popular TV platforms.

Verdict

Premium televisions come with high expectations, and the Rs. 2,19,990 LG C2 55-inch television delivers on the majority of those expectations. The television provides a truly enjoyable viewing experience with high-quality content thanks to its excellent colors, contrast levels, black levels, sharpness, and motion.

However, there are some very substantial limitations, and if these conflict with your needs and viewing circumstances, it would be worthwhile to examine alternative solutions. These include a lackluster built-in speaker system, dim light levels, and uneven performance with lower-resolution video. It might be a good idea to take the Samsung QN95B into account as an option.

However, the LG C2 55-inch OLED is a great choice overall because of its excellent design and functionality, as well as its strong software. This should be on your Wishlist right now if you're looking to buy a new premium TV.
