"This week, we're launching Meta Verified — a subscription service that allows you to verify your account with a government ID, get a blue badge, get extra impersonation protection against accounts claiming to be you, and get direct access to customer support," Zuckerberg said on his Instagram channel, not his YouTube channel.

The bundled blue check subscription package for Facebook and Instagram will be available first in Australia and New Zealand, priced at $11.99 per month on the web and $14.99 per month on iOS. Those living outside of these two regions should be patient, as the subscription will be extended to more countries soon.'

"Meta Verified is about increasing authenticity and security across our services," Zuckerberg explained. Apart from the verified badge, you will be paying Meta to protect your account from impersonators, so your impersonators will be on the lookout at all times. Also, subscribers will have access to customer support, which will not be a bot but a 'real person,' so if you can't see someone's profile picture, you know whom to call.

Paying the monthly fees also increases your visibility and reach. As a result, you will appear more frequently in people's feeds, searches, and comments. Not only that, but new users will receive exclusive stickers and 100 free stars per month, Meta's digital currency.

Aside from $11.99 or $14.99 per month, you must agree to some terms and conditions. First, you have to be using Facebook or Instagram before; a few posts would help. You must also be at least 18 years old. Applicants for a Meta Verified subscription must also submit a government-issued ID with their name and photograph, which must match the name and photograph on their Facebook or Instagram account.

If you are already verified on Instagram, don't worry; your verified badge will not be removed, and you will not be required to pay, at least for the time being. Additionally, businesses cannot currently purchase a blue badge. In the long run, however, Meta sees everyone paying for the verified badge.

The blue verification badge has been a sought-after attribute on social media for a while. It is used to represent well-known people such as politicians, actors, musicians, athletes, and journalists. However, if you are a human, you can now pay for it and tell people that you are the same person offline and online.

Musk redesigned Twitter's Blue subscription last year, including the blue checkmark, for $7 (Rs 650) per month. So now you know what "Meta Verified" means.

With every social media app launching its own subscription model, ,it would be fun to see what the future holds for a non-paying customers.
