Last month Google released the first Developer Preview of Android 14, and today the company is back with the second Developer Preview. The new release comes with additional enhancements to privacy, security, and performance, and continues to refine the experience on tablets and foldable. Following this Developer Preview, the first Beta release will arrive in April, followed by three more in subsequent months, according to Google's official timeline.
The Android 14 Development Preview 2 operating system includes built-in functionality for granting apps access to only specific photographs and videos, to all of them, or to none at all. The updated dialogue for this is shown below.
Apps can sign in using passkeys thanks to the platform API Credential Management in Android 14. The account selector's UI appearance has been improved in the second Developer Preview, and the API has also been modified in response to comments from Developer Preview1.
Applications targeting Android 14 (which will initially only be a very tiny subset) will need to obtain permissions in order to initiate background operations.
The memory management system on Android has been optimised in Developer Preview2, which improves resource use when background apps are open. Moreover, Android 14 will have fewer non-dismissible notifications and better APIs for app shops.
Using Regional preferences, once your smartphone gets Android 14, you'll be able to set temperature units, the first day of the week, and numbering system, based on your region. So you won't have to use Fahrenheit any longer if you're a European residing in the United States.
As implied by the name, only app developers are advised to utilise the second Development Preview for app testing. Consumers will have easier access after the first beta version launches next month. The Pixel 4a 5G and later Google smartphones can be installed with Android 14 Development Preview 2.
