Apple is reportedly preparing to debut its first-ever foldable iPhone, and a new leak has shed light on its design approach. According to tipster Instant Digital on Weibo, the upcoming iPhone Fold may feature a black camera module, unlike the body-coloured camera housing seen on recent iPhones.
The rear camera setup is expected to include two horizontally aligned cameras, along with a microphone and LED flash. This black “camera plateau” design is said to resemble camera layouts previously seen on iPad Pro models, giving Apple’s foldable a distinct and premium look.
At launch, colour options may be limited. White is said to be the primary colour, with Apple likely adding one more shade.
The leak also points to changes in button placement, setting the foldable iPhone apart from standard iPhones. The volume buttons are expected to move to the top edge, aligned to the right, similar to the iPad mini.
Meanwhile, the power button with Touch ID and the Camera Control button are expected to remain on the right edge. The left side of the phone may be completely free of buttons, resulting in a cleaner design and potentially better usability when the device is folded or unfolded.
The iPhone Fold is tipped to feature a 7.8-inch crease-less inner OLED display, paired with a 5.5-inch outer screen, which would be the smallest display used on a modern iPhone.
To keep thickness in check, Apple is expected to skip Face ID and rely on Touch ID integrated into the power button. The device may also feature a smaller Dynamic Island, possibly using a single punch-hole front camera.
Under the hood, the foldable iPhone could run on the upcoming A20 Pro chipset, which is also expected to power the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Reports suggest the device may include four cameras in total and the largest battery ever in an iPhone, likely exceeding 5,500mAh.
The iPhone Fold is expected to launch in September 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Pricing is tipped at around $2,400 (roughly ₹2,15,000), placing it firmly in the ultra-premium segment and above current foldables like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

Apple appears to be prioritising design refinement, slim form factor, and usability over flashy specs for its first foldable iPhone. While the expected pricing puts it out of reach for most users, the iPhone Fold could redefine premium foldables—if Apple delivers on durability and long-term performance.
