Here's what we know about the headset till now
The Headset is rumoured to be operating on a 3D iOS interface, which uses advanced head and eye tracking software. The OS would most likely be called xrOS
While creating a pair of stylish smart glasses is Apple's ultimate goal for its augmented reality project, the first iteration will apparently be substantially larger and weigh between 300 and 400 grammes, according to Ming-Chi Kuo. The first-generation Apple headset would, according to rumours, be an Oculus-style device with an AirPods Max-like knit mesh body.
It might have a sleeker design than Google's Daydream headgear, which also has a body made of soft fabric. Comfort will be a focus, as indicated by a patent application for a "head-mounted display unit" that had multiple adjustment zones. To reduce weight, the device is allegedly comprised of glass, carbon fibre, and aluminium.
While rumours claim that Apple experimented with a headband battery similar to the Meta Quest Pro, the company ultimately decided to use an external battery that you would clip to your waist or put in a pocket and connect to the headset with a magnetically attached power cable (similar to the MagSafe on MacBooks). The device is only supposed to function for a few hours on a single charge, but you can switch out battery packs to extend use.
The latency of the majority of wireless earbuds or headphones is too high for their intended usage, thus consumers will have to adopt one of two alternatives, according to a report by The Information. The alternative option is to utilise more recent AirPods models, which may enter an "ultra-low latency" mode when connected to the headset. One option is a headband with built-in speakers (similar to those on the Meta Quest Pro). It appears that the headset could come with H2 processors (found in the 2nd-gen AirPods Pro).
Apple's AR headset, according to Kuo (via MacRumors), will contain two processors, with the secondary chip handling mixed reality graphics and sensor-related tasks, and the higher-end processor being a kind of version on the M2 processor found in Macs and iPads. It won't be necessary to set up or use an iPhone to use the Reality Pro headset. Its independence from the iPhone will greatly aid in the Reality Pro's credibility. It's obvious that Apple wants the Reality Pro customer base to be aware that the product can stand on its own two Reality feet.
Regarding cost, rumours indicate that the initial model may be a rather pricy gadget. According to the most recent Bloomberg speculations, the product will cost around $3,000, which will virtually likely prevent it from becoming widely popular. It is expected that the next iteration of the Reality Pro will be a substantially less expensive model and arrive a year or two after the first.
It would be fun to see how this technology evolves in the future.
