A cyberattack on Tata Electronics, a major Apple manufacturing partner in India, has resulted in the leak of sensitive documents on the dark web. According to a Reuters report, the files include supplier lists, component maps, and photographs related to Apple's next-generation iPhone.
The ransomware group World Leaks allegedly published the stolen documents. These files provide a rare and detailed view of Apple's supply chain for the iPhone 18 Pro. Reuters stated that the leaked documents map hundreds of iPhone 18 Pro components to specific suppliers. The components listed include those used in the battery, cameras, and main circuit board.
Apple does not usually disclose which company manufactures each component for its devices. The company treats this information as highly sensitive, as it reveals the structure of its global supply chain. It also shows where Apple depends on a limited number of suppliers.
The leaked records indicate where Apple sources the same component from multiple vendors. They also reveal where the company relies on only one or two suppliers. This information could expose vulnerabilities in Apple's manufacturing network.
Another part of the leak includes photographs that reportedly show iPhone 18 Pro models undergoing drop tests at a Tata Electronics facility. Reuters reported that these images are dated early 2026 and carry Apple's "confidential" watermark. The images also include internal code names associated with the iPhone 18 Pro generation.
Reuters could not independently verify the model shown in the photographs. However, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters that the images depict unreleased iPhone 18 Pro devices.
The exposure of supplier details and internal testing images is significant for Apple. The company closely guards its supply chain information to maintain competitive advantage and security. The leak may prompt Apple and its partners to review their cybersecurity measures and supply chain practices.
As of now, there has been no official comment from Apple or Tata Electronics regarding the breach or the authenticity of the leaked files. The incident highlights the risks technology companies face from cyberattacks, especially when sensitive supply chain data is involved.
