Apple has just announced the HomePod mini 2, a refreshed version of its pocket-sized smart speaker. It brings a smarter Siri, a fun new visual feature called Sound Glow, the ability to pair up to four speakers, and a fresh set of colors. Under the hood, it runs on Apple’s S10 chip, which is what makes the new Siri AI possible.
The biggest upgrade is Siri AI, which can tell up to six people apart by their voices. That means everyone in the house can get messages and responses meant just for them. To use it, you’ll need to pair the speaker with an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence. One major thing to note - these Siri AI features won’t be ready on launch day. Apple says they’ll come later through a software update.
Then there’s Sound Glow, which turns the top of the speaker into a little display. While music plays, the surface lights up and moves, picking up colors from the album art of whatever song is on. It’s a small touch that makes listening feel a bit more alive.
If you want bigger sound, you can link up to four HomePod mini 2 speakers for a surround setup, which works nicely alongside the new Apple TV 4K when you’re watching movies or shows. The speaker also doubles as a home hub, so you can use it to control compatible smart home gadgets around your house.
The HomePod mini 2 goes on sale October 30, priced at ₹18,900 in India. It’s available in blue, green, pink, midnight, and white, through the Apple Store.
