According to information shared on the Chinese social network Weibo by a user who claims to possess industry insider data, the size increase in the iPhone 16 Pro models is not solely attributed to the overall design but also to the screens. This adjustment will allow Apple to allocate sufficient internal space to accommodate the necessary hardware components for the enhanced cameras.
Currently, the main camera sensors in the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have a size of 1/1.14 inch. However, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to feature larger sensors, measuring 1/1.24 inch.
It's worth noting that the implementation of periscope cameras is anticipated to be exclusive to the "Pro" models within the iPhone 15 line in late 2023 and the iPhone 16 line in 2024. However, the main camera sensors in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will not undergo a size increase.
The integration of larger camera sensors in the iPhone 16 Pro models is projected to yield improved dynamic range, background blur, and low-light photography capabilities. There are also rumors suggesting that Apple may reconfigure the camera module design for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, potentially rearranging the positions of different lenses and incorporating the periscope camera technology into the telephoto lens. This design change might be accompanied by new software functionalities to enhance the photographic capabilities of future iPhone models from Apple.
