Yesterday, the final match of IPL Season 16 took place between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Gujarat Titans (GT). CSK emerged victorious by 5 wickets, clinching the IPL Season 16 trophy. Notably, Jio Cinema, the digital streaming partner of Tata IPL, achieved a remarkable milestone during the match. Over 32 million viewers tuned in live on Jio Cinema to watch the final, marking a significant viewership number for the company. In the qualifier match, Jio Cinema had already set a record with 2.57 crore live viewership during the clash between Gujarat and Mumbai, where Shubman Gill scored a brilliant 129 runs.
In 2019, Disney Plus Hotstar, the former digital streaming partner, held the record for the highest live viewership during an IPL match with 25 million viewers. However, Jio Cinema surpassed this record, establishing a new global benchmark for digital sports viewing. Jio Cinema garnered over 1.5 billion video views in the first seven weeks of this year's IPL, setting a remarkable milestone.
To capitalize on the IPL's growing popularity, Reliance Jio introduced a paid subscription plan for Jio Cinema, allowing users to access exclusive content similar to platforms like Disney Plus Hotstar, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. Jio has also partnered with HBO and Warner Brothers, enabling users to enjoy content from these platforms on Jio Cinema. The subscription is available for Rs 999.
