The Nothing Phone (4b) is struggling to attract buyers due to its pricing and specifications. Recent poll results indicate that a price reduction is necessary for the device to compete effectively. Despite the potential for positive reviews, the phone's current features and cost are not converting many consumers into fans.
Several factors contribute to the lukewarm reception of the Nothing Phone (4b). The device features slow, non-expandable storage and a relatively weak chipset. It offers only three major operating system updates and uses a small camera sensor. These limitations, combined with its pricing, have led to consumer hesitation.
Many users are considering the older Nothing Phone (4a) instead. The price difference between the two models is often minimal, especially when promotions are available. The 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant of the (4a) is frequently discounted, making it a more attractive option for buyers.
The Nothing Phone (4b) is primarily available in an 8GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration. India is an exception, where an 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant is offered. Additionally, the Indian version comes with a larger 6,000mAh battery, compared to the 5,200mAh battery found in models sold elsewhere.
These regional differences may influence purchasing decisions, but they do not fully address the concerns raised by potential buyers. The limited configurations and modest hardware upgrades have not been enough to sway consumers.
The mid-range smartphone market offers many alternatives that outperform the Nothing Phone (4b) in key areas. Competing models often feature better cameras, more powerful chipsets, or larger batteries. According to poll results, these alternatives pose a significant challenge for the (4b).
Some consumers suggest that the (4b) should be compared to older models like the Nothing Phone (3a), rather than current mid-range competitors. However, even in such comparisons, the (4b) struggles to stand out.
For 2024, Nothing's lineup includes only the Phone (4a) and the (4a) Pro, in addition to the (4b). Without significant changes, the (4b) is expected to launch with limited impact. The company may need to revisit its strategy to remain competitive in the crowded mid-range segment.
