The newly appointed board members will work side by side with the transitional members who took over after Altman left. There will be continuity in OpenAI's leadership structure thanks to the retention of notable players like Quora CEO Adam D'Angelo and Salesforce co-CEO Bret Taylor.
There has been a deliberate attempt to increase diversity and inclusion on the board, and the accusations about its lack of diversity have prompted the expansion. To augment the knowledge of the current board members, Sue Desmond-Hellmann, Nicole Seligman, and Fidji Simo have been appointed. Their backgrounds include extensive work in global leadership, technology, and the charity sector.
The vast experience of Desmond-Hellmann in the fields of oncology and healthcare, as well as her role as former chief executive officer of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, are assets to the table. Seligman brings a fresh viewpoint to the board thanks to her extensive legal experience, which includes prominent participation in high-profile cases. Simo provides insightful commentary on innovation and technology; she was a prominent leader at Meta and Instacart.

Besides adding new board members, OpenAI has also established new board committees and adopted new corporate principles, both of which constitute substantial governance reforms. In keeping with OpenAI's dedication to ethical AI development, these steps will increase organization-wide openness, accountability, and moral standards.
Regardless of these encouraging advances, new information has emerged about OpenAI's internal struggles, including accusations of coercive behaviour against Altman. Nevertheless, a separate inquiry by the legal firm WilmerHale found that the dissolution of Altman's position was due to a lack of trust with the previous board and had nothing to do with product safety or security.
With the new board in place and President Greg Brockman at the helm, OpenAI is determined to continue its work towards its goal of creating game-changing technologies for the benefit of all people everywhere. Keeping true to its founding principles and leading the charge for AI innovation are priorities for the organisation as it moves forward at this critical juncture.
