Oppo, Huawei May Follow Apple’s Centre Stage Selfie Camera Approach

Apple’s Centre Stage selfie camera, introduced with the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, could soon inspire Android smartphone makers as well. According to a new leak, Oppo and Huawei are exploring a similar square front camera sensor for their upcoming devices, aiming to improve selfie framing and video call experiences.

What Is Apple’s Centre Stage Selfie Camera?

The iPhone 17 series features an 18-megapixel front camera that uses a square (1:1) sensor instead of the traditional rectangular design. This allows the camera to:

• Automatically zoom in or out based on the number of people in the frame
• Adjust framing and rotation dynamically
• Keep subjects centred even when they move
• Support landscape selfies while holding the phone vertically through smart cropping

This feature has been widely praised for its usefulness in video calls, selfies, and third-party apps like WhatsApp and Zoom.

Oppo Find X10 Series Could Get Square Selfie Sensor

As per tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Oppo is testing a similar 1:1 square selfie sensor for its next-generation flagship lineup, expected to be called the Oppo Find X10 series. The tipster claims Oppo’s implementation could be even more refined than Apple’s, though exact technical details are not yet known.

Interestingly, the rumoured Oppo Find X9 may skip this upgrade, sticking to the current imaging setup used across the Find X9 lineup.

Huawei May Bring the Feature to Mid-Range Phones

Huawei is also said to be exploring the same square selfie camera technology. However, unlike Oppo, Huawei may not reserve it for flagship models. The leak suggests the company could introduce the feature in its photography-focused Nova mid-range smartphones, possibly starting with the Huawei Nova 16 series.

If true, this would make advanced selfie framing tools more accessible to mid-range buyers.
