Modi also opened the World Telecommunication Standardisation Assembly (WTSA) 2024, organized by the International Telecommunication Union, a UN agency.

He pointed out that in the last ten years, India has laid down optical fibers equivalent to eight times the distance to the moon, and that every district now has 5G coverage. Jyotiraditya Scindia, addressing the attendees, stated, “We march with the world in 5G, but we shall lead in 6G.” He added that 5G is expected to inject an astounding $450 billion into the Indian economy by 2040, with services rolled out across all 36 states and UTs, covering 98% of districts and 80% of the population in just 22 months.

The event, held at Pragati Maidan, will feature leading companies like Xiaomi, Qualcomm, and Reliance Jio. Notably, Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio, emphasized the transformative potential of AI in positioning India as a new-age global factory and service hub.
