At the company's annual AI summit, Apple employees were given information about the large language model and other AI tools, and engineers from the Siri team have been experimenting with language-generation ideas on a weekly basis.
However, a former engineer who worked on Siri claims that the virtual assistant may struggle to adapt to the new technology due to "technological hurdles" and "clunky code." According to the engineer, incorporating even "basic features" can take weeks, while more complex upgrades may take up to a year, as any new phrase added to Siri's database would require rebuilding the entire database.
DigiTimes reports that major companies, including Apple, Meta, and Amazon, are re-evaluating their AI development approach due to the growing interest in generative AI, striving to catch up to Microsoft's lead in the field. Apple and Tesla are specifically said to be rethinking their strategies.
