Taiwan was hit by a 7.4-magnitude earthquake, the largest in 25 years, killing seven people and injuring 700 more. The tremor damaged TSMC manufacturing facilities, a key maker of Apple's custom processors, which might cause delays in device production and launch, affecting future releases.
TSMC's N3 fabrication unit in Tainan has sustained structural damage, suspending output and damaging EUV machines used in manufacturing processes below 7nm. Research and development facilities have also been damaged. Another fabrication site in Hsinchu has suffered pipeline and wafer damage, resulting in a temporary suspension of production.

The 3nm A17 Pro processors used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max require weeks of continuous labor and vacuum setup, which might be jeopardized if TSMC's manufacturing plant is damaged and production is halted.
TSMC is analysing the damage and hopes to restore partial production shortly, but the impact on Apple's supply chain remains unknown. Apple is ramping up Vision Pro manufacturing while working on the iPad Air, Mac Studio, Mac Pro, iPhone 16 series, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 3.
