Tecno has introduced the Pova 8, featuring a large 8,000mAh battery and the new Alive Matrix Display. The phone includes a small dot-matrix display in the third “lens” of its camera island, although only one lens is an actual camera. This model offers several upgrades and some downgrades compared to the previous Pova 7.

Key Highlights

  • Tecno Pova 8 features a new Alive Matrix Display and 8,000mAh battery.
  • Battery supports 45W fast charging and is rated for over 2,000 cycles.
  • Dimensity 7100 chipset paired with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.
  • 6.76-inch IPS LCD offers 144Hz refresh rate and 1080p+ resolution.
  • Main camera uses 50MP Sony Lytia 600 sensor with 2x in-sensor zoom.

Key Features and Battery Performance

The Tecno Pova 8 stands out with its 8,000mAh battery, an increase from the Pova 7’s 6,000mAh capacity. TÜV SÜD testing confirms the phone can last two days on a single charge. The battery is rated for over 2,000 cycles, maintaining at least 80% of its original capacity, which equates to about six years of use. The device supports 45W fast charging, allowing it to charge from 1% to 50% in 35 minutes. It also offers 10W reverse charging. However, the 30W wireless charging found in the previous model is no longer available.

Hardware and Display Details

The Pova 8 is powered by the Dimensity 7100 chipset, announced in January. While newer than the Dimensity 7300 used in the Pova 7, the Dimensity 7100 is built on an older TSMC 6nm process, compared to the 4nm process of its predecessor. The chipset is paired with 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. A 15,000mm² graphite sheet helps manage heat. Tecno claims the phone can deliver stable 90fps gameplay on popular titles.

The device features a 6.76-inch IPS LCD with a 144Hz refresh rate and 1080p+ resolution. The display supports a 240Hz touch sampling rate and Wet & Oily Finger Touch Recognition 2.0, improving usability in various conditions.

Camera and Design

The rear camera island appears to have three lenses, but only one is functional. The main camera uses a 50MP Sony Lytia 600 sensor (1/1.95-inch) with 2x in-sensor zoom and autofocus. The Alive Matrix Display occupies the position of the second “lens.” The front camera is a 13MP module located within the display.

The Pova 8 runs HiOS 16 based on Android 16. The phone is rated IP64, making it dust-tight and resistant to water splashes. Tecno will offer the Pova 8 in Arc White, Graphite Black, Helios Orange, and Echo Green.
