Valve has announced the launch date and pricing for its Steam Machine gaming PC. The 512GB model will cost $1,049, while the 2TB version is priced at $1,349. These prices do not include a controller. Customers who want Valve’s Steam Controller can purchase a bundle for $1,128 for the 512GB model and $1,428 for the 2TB model. Users are not required to buy the Steam Controller, as the Steam Machine supports other existing controllers.
Both Steam Machine models come with two additional faceplates, including one in red fabric and another in solid walnut. The device is powered by a 6-core, 12-thread AMD Zen 4 CPU, which can reach speeds up to 4.8GHz. The graphics are handled by an AMD RDNA3 GPU with 28 compute units, clocking up to 2.45GHz. System memory consists of 16GB DDR5, provided as a single 16GB 5600 SO-DIMM in single-channel configuration. However, the Steam Machine offers two memory slots, allowing users to add another module later. The GPU includes 8GB of GDDR6 memory.
Storage options include either 512GB or 2TB, both using standard M.2 drives, which users can upgrade. There is also a microSD card slot, enabling users to swap cards between the Steam Machine and the Steam Deck. The device features a built-in power supply unit.
Interested buyers can sign up on the Steam store page until June 25 at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. After the registration period, Valve will randomly select eligible participants. Selected customers will be notified and can place their orders starting June 29. If a selected customer does not complete the purchase within 72 hours, the opportunity passes to the next person on the waitlist.
To qualify, users must have a Steam account in good standing with at least one purchase made before April 27, 2026. Valve first announced the Steam Machine in November of the previous year, but the launch was delayed due to a global memory shortage. The company had not previously announced pricing.
The Steam Machine runs SteamOS 3, which Valve also offers for installation on other devices. The Steam Machine is positioned as a flexible Linux-based gaming PC. Recently, Valve increased the price of its Steam Deck by 44%, bringing the 1TB model to $949. The Steam Machine's pricing is higher than the $900 PlayStation 5 Pro and the $600 standard PlayStation 5, though its performance is similar to the latter. While the Steam Machine offers flexibility as a Linux PC, building a custom PC with higher performance for a lower price remains an option for consumers.
