X has launched its X Money service in the United States for Premium and Premium+ subscribers. The rollout began today, after initial plans for an earlier launch in January were delayed. X Money aims to provide users with a comprehensive financial service integrated into the X platform.

Key Highlights

  • X Money launches for US Premium and Premium+ subscribers with a custom metal Visa debit card.
  • Features include free global ATM withdrawals, up to 6 percent APY, and 3 percent cashback on purchases.
  • Deposit accounts are FDIC insured up to 250000 dollars through Cross River Bank.

X Money Features and Benefits

Subscribers to X Money receive a custom metal Visa debit card. The card allows free global ATM withdrawals and does not charge foreign transaction fees. Users can earn up to 6% annual percentage yield (APY) on their deposits. The service also offers 3% cashback on eligible purchases made with the X card.

X Money supports free and instant transfers between X Money users. The platform also accommodates wire transfers and check deposits. Passkey authentication is available to enhance account security. Users can set custom spending limits and require authentication for specific transactions.

All card transactions benefit from Visa's security and risk management tools. Deposit accounts are maintained at Cross River Bank, a member of the FDIC. Deposits are insured up to $250,000, providing additional security for users.

Integration With the X Platform

The introduction of X Money marks a significant step in X's strategy to become a comprehensive super app. Elon Musk has identified financial services as a key component in expanding the platform's capabilities. With X Money, the platform now offers real money services to its US-based Premium and Premium+ subscribers.

Currently, the service is limited to subscribers in the United States. There is no information yet on when X Money will become available in other countries or to non-subscribers.

Security and Account Management

X Money emphasizes security by offering passkey authentication and customizable transaction settings. Every transaction is monitored and protected by Visa's established security measures. Users can manage their account settings directly from the X platform, including setting limits and authentication requirements for transactions.

With deposit accounts held at Cross River Bank, users benefit from FDIC insurance up to $250,000. This provides reassurance for those concerned about the safety of their funds.
