Work on the new Android app began in August of last year. At that time, Bier announced the formation of an Android-focused team to improve the user experience. In October, X recorded one of its highest weeks for Android downloads, which influenced the decision to prioritize the app's rebuild.

Despite the release, Bier noted that the app is not yet fully complete. Performance on older Android devices requires further improvements. Additionally, support for Spaces, X's live audio feature, is not included in the current version. Bier stated that work continues on these areas, as well as on new features such as a video editor, video reactions, cashtags, and custom timelines. These updates are expected to arrive on Android soon.
