Microsoft has announced the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition to celebrate 25 years of the Xbox brand. The original Xbox launched in North America on November 15, 2001. This special edition console pays tribute to the original design while offering the performance of the Xbox Series X.
The Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition features a translucent green finish, reminiscent of the first Xbox console. Microsoft describes the design as a way to honour Xbox history and bring it into the modern era. Jason Ronald, Vice President of Next Generation at Microsoft, confirmed this is the first translucent design for the Xbox Series X.
The console has a translucent "OG Green" shell, allowing users to see some internal components. When powered on, the front "X" lights up in green, referencing the original Xbox startup animation. The console also displays a 25th Anniversary logo on the front. Microsoft notes that fans will find hidden surprises throughout the design.
Alongside the console, Microsoft introduced the Xbox Wireless Controller X25 Special Edition and Xbox Game Pass. The controller matches the translucent green theme and includes several references to the original Xbox controller. It features classic coloured ABXY buttons and bumpers inspired by the black and white buttons of the original "Duke" controller. The transparent back casing and battery door reveal the classic Xbox logo underneath.
Microsoft will release the Xbox Series X25 Limited Edition console and controller in select markets starting in November. The controller will also be available separately for those who want to purchase it without the console. Pricing details and pre-order information have not yet been released. Microsoft plans to share more information closer to launch.
The company also indicated that the anniversary console is part of broader celebrations for Xbox's 25th anniversary. More announcements related to the milestone are expected in the coming months.
