Sony is rolling out firmware updates aimed at addressing HDMI audio and Dolby Vision problems reported on several recent Bravia televisions. The issues appeared after earlier software updates and primarily affected models using MediaTek's Pentonic 1000 chipset with Android 14.
The affected range includes the Bravia 5, Bravia 7, Bravia 7 II, Bravia 8, Bravia 8 II, Bravia 9, Bravia 9 II and Sony A95L. Users had reported audio falling out of sync with video when using external HDMI devices, while others encountered problems involving Dolby Vision playback.
Sony has released firmware updates addressing different parts of the reported problems. Firmware v114.602.170.1 was introduced to address a Dolby Vision black-screen problem when an external HDMI player was used. Reports indicate that the black-screen problem has been resolved for affected users, although some Dolby Vision flickering or scan-line complaints remain.
Sony has also started rolling out firmware v114.603.100.1 in the US, with user reports indicating that it addresses HDMI audio gradually falling out of sync with the picture. However, eARC audio dropouts may still occur for some users, meaning the latest software may not eliminate every reported problem.
Sony's support pages also confirm that firmware updates are available for individual Bravia models, with the company's support site listing v114.602.170.1 for compatible North American televisions.
Owners experiencing HDMI audio delays should first check whether the television has the latest firmware available for its specific model and region. Sony recommends using the TV's software-update option or checking the relevant model's support page.
For continuing audio-sync problems, Sony's troubleshooting guidance includes checking the HDMI connection, setting eARC to Auto and adjusting A/V Sync or digital audio-output settings. Sony also recommends using a suitable HDMI cable when using eARC.
The situation is therefore not necessarily resolved for every affected television. Owners who continue seeing audio dropouts, Dolby Vision flickering or other HDMI-related problems may need to monitor subsequent firmware releases for their specific Bravia model.
Sony provides a straightforward update process through the television's Help menu:
Press Help on the Sony TV remote.
Select System software update.
Choose Software update or Check for a system software update.
Follow the on-screen instructions if an update is available.
Availability and software versions may vary by model and region. So owners should verify the update against the official support page for the specific television.
