The QN900B is Samsung's flagship TV for 2022. A situation that is justified in many respects, but above all it features 8K resolution, a premium metal design with integrated speakers at the edges and a high-end implementation of mini LED Samsung backlight technology, and specialized AI-assisted image processing.
It's also backed by generations of excellent Samsung 8K TVs and generations of Mini LED technology. So, even if the appeal of the 8K resolution doesn't convince you, there's a lot more to it.
Samsung has always been pretty aggressive with its 8K TV pricing, and while the QN900B's Rs 1594900 price tag was high. But compared to other non-Samsung 8K TVs it was a steal. Moreover, the TV is currently available for Rs 1275990 which makes it even more attainable.
The QN900B sets the right high-end tone with its excellent design. The first thing that hits you is how little you notice. It continues the (almost) bezel-less look of the Infinity design that Samsung has used for years on its high-end TVs.
This lack of bezels makes the TV look surprisingly futuristic, focusing attention on the images that are produced rather than the mechanisms that produce them. The QN900B is significantly slimmer in the rear than its 2021 predecessor. Luckily, there's still enough depth to appreciate both the device's gorgeous glossy metal finish and the way Samsung has packed the speakers behind the grille finish on all four edges of the TV.
Meanwhile, Samsung's Ambient Mode, which fills the screen with digital art, "screensaver" videos, or your own photos when you're not watching TV, pairs particularly well with the QN900B's sleek design.
The QN900B's 'intelligent' remote control also stands out from the norm, especially with the solar panel on the back, so you don't need to change batteries.
The only design issue is that the back of the TV is so thin that the screen flexes a bit during setup, which makes setting it up a thrilling experience.
The connections performed on the One Connect box are plentiful. In particular, there are 4 HDMIs, all built on the latest HDMI 2.1 specification, supporting the latest gaming features of 4K/120Hz, VRR and ALLM. But you also get three USBs, an RF port for a Freeview HD tuner, and the inevitable "invisible" connectivity of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Samsung TVs come with Tizen OS in place of the Android TV which is widely available in other Smart TVs. Completing the N900B's impressive set of features is an intelligent Tizen-based user interface. This is as good as ever when it comes to content, bolstered by Samsung's increasingly impressive (because it's more carefully curated) TV Plus system's fully streamed TV "channels" for the most conceivable All streaming apps are in place. The main disadvantage of the Tizen OS is that Samsung does not allow Dolby Vision HDR format and sticks to HDR10 and its own HDR10+ standards.
8K alone isn't enough to entice many TV buyers to step up from much cheaper 4K TVs, so the QN900B doesn't just offer more pixels. In fact, it breaks new ground in some great ways.
Image processing is handled by the latest version of Samsung's Neo Quantum Processor 8K. This processor improves on the 2021 version by supporting local dimming and new shape-adaptive lighting control features, as well as increasing the number of AI neural networks available when analyzing/responding to incoming images. The TV's default settings for image sharpness have too many unwanted motion processing effects and apply blur noise reduction where they are not needed.
The screen is illuminated with 40 times fewer LEDs than traditional LED TVs. This means you can fit more LEDs into the same screen area, resulting in more brightness and potentially more control over how light is used to create images.
The 8K flagship QN900B is clearly better than many of its competitors in many ways. Speakers built into the edges of the screen help move sound away from the screen and place details on and off the screen more precisely. Vocals, in particular, are placed with near-amazing accuracy. The bass is also reasonably well managed, hitting the midrange clearly and convincingly. Though we will still recommend you to buy a better audio system to have the best experience while watching movies.
Samsung has made its 8K TVs even better compared to its 4K flagships. The TV is no short of a piece of art and looks excellent even when turned off. The QN900B is truly a marvel when it comes to the viewing experience. Samsung has added enough features to the QN900B that it makes a clear case to go for an ultra-large 8K TV over 4K TVs.
