Budget-friendly smartphones have been produced by Tecno for a while. With the debut of the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro, the business has now opted to enter the luxury phone segment. The phone has a lot of features and outstanding specs, but it costs a lot.
It has a MediaTek Dimensity 9000 CPU, a 50 MP main camera, a 120Hz display, and more. The Phantom X2 Pro features a fashionable appearance that resembles a high-end smartphone. Additionally, it has a huge 5160 mAh battery and 45W rapid charging.
From afar, the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro will capture your attention. It has a large, intimidating appearance and is difficult to forget. The large camera on the back is the primary attraction. You'll see some sizable camera lenses, one of which has a coloured border around it.
For the review, I have the Mars Orange colour option, but the phone is also offered in Stardust Grey. Well, the orange colour option is my favourite; it has a stunning appearance and is really eye-catching. For those who like a more stylish and tidy appearance, there is a grey option.
The Phantom X2 Pro feels substantial and dependable. I can appreciate the chassis's minimal to nonexistent flex. The back of the Phantom X2 Pro is comprised of plastic, all of which, according to Tecno, has been recycled. On the rear, you'll see Phantom branding that appears to be quite little.
The large FHD+ 6.8-inch AMOLED display on the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. It has a peak brightness of 500 nits and a refresh rate of 120Hz. In the settings, you can select between 60Hz, 120Hz, and Auto mode.
Everything that happens on the screen feels incredibly smooth, including the animations and programme switching. I really enjoyed using this display to play games and scroll through my Instagram feed. The brightness was a problem, though. Given that it's a flagship phone, 500 nits of max brightness is less than desirable.
The AMOLED panel makes for excellent display quality. The contrast is strong, the colours are bright and vibrant, and the blacks are deep. I had a wonderful day watching some movies on Netflix. It was also enjoyable to see angels.
Since it has Widevine L1 certification and doesn't support HDR, you can watch high-quality material on OTT services like Netflix and Prime Videos. Except for the tiny punch hole cutout on the top, there is nothing to draw your attention away from the very thin bezels on all sides.
The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset, 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 256GB of internal storage power the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro. The CPU itself is very strong and has plenty of power. I had no problems going about my daily business.
Everything went perfectly, including opening and closing programmes, snapping images, and multitasking. Additionally, the RAM management was extremely good. It has sufficient RAM to execute programmes in the background. The good news is that the applications opened from where I left them when I gave it a try.
A formidable performer, the Phantom X2 Pro can render visuals and tackle graphically demanding games with ease. In terms of video games, I played Genshin Impact, Apex Legends Mobile, and Call of Duty Mobile, all of which required a lot of graphics. I can state with some confidence that all the games worked well on high settings.
Practically, I never encountered any performance problems with the Phantom X2 Pro. The phone efficiently does whatever I throw at it, from trivial tasks to games.
HiOS 12, an operating system based on Android 12, is used by the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro. My favourite Android flavour isn't HiOS. Similar to MIUI, you can access quick action controls by swiping from the top right corner and notifications by sliding from the top left corner.
HiOS has many features, including duplicating programmes, floating windows, and edge panels. There is no method to alter the alphabetized listing, which makes the app drawer appear congested. This gadget comes with a lot of pre-installed bloatware, most of which can be disabled, but not Tecno's own apps.
Similar to ColorOS and MIUI, you can choose from a wide variety of clock styles in addition to an always-on option.
Now let's discuss the Tecno Phantom X2 Pro's camera. On the back, it has three cameras: a 50 MP main camera, a 50MP portrait lens, and a 13MP ultrawide lens. A 32 MP camera for selfies is located inside the punch hole cutout on the front.
In daylight, the 50MP camera produces outstanding pictures. The visuals had vivid colours and were clear and detailed. Wide dynamic range was present. A second benefit of using the setting is the speed at which the phone can capture photographs in the 50 MP resolution.
The Phantom X2 Pro produced stunning photos with a natural bokeh effect that made the subject stand out. Due to the camera's short depth of field, the subject stands out sharply in comparison to the background.
Tecno made a great deal out of its portrait lens, however despite the impressive bokeh effect, the image quality doesn't really distinguish it from other flagship phones.
Despite not actually being up to pace, the ultrawide lens frequently manages to create shots that are usable. When the camera app detects insufficient lighting, it immediately switches to a specific night mode that makes a noticeable difference for nighttime photos.
In terms of video recording, the Phantom X2 Pro can capture 1080p films at 30 frames per second with the selfie camera and 4K videos at 60 frames per second with the primary camera. The primary camera produces stunning 4K footage. There is a great deal of detail, and the colours seem inviting and natural.
The Tecno Phantom X2 Pro has a sizable 5160 mAh battery, which is a bit unusual but provides adequate battery backup. Even if you play video games frequently, it has enough battery life to last you the entire day.
Even though the battery life is good, you still need to charge the phone. Additionally, the Phantom X2 Pro has a 45W fast charging connector to recharge its big battery. If Tecno had offered faster charging rates, like 80W or 120W, comparable to what other brands offer at this price, I would have loved it.
According to the manufacturer, a 45W fast charger can fully charge a phone in just 20 minutes. However, in all honesty, it took us around 45 minutes to get there. To fully charge the phone from 0% to 100%, the 45W fast charger needs around an hour and a half. Be aware that wireless charging is not supported.
The Tecno Phantom X2 Pro is difficult to endorse, mostly due to its high price. Without a doubt, it's a fantastic phone, but I don't believe it's good enough to justify the high price. You won't be let down even if you choose to follow it, though.
You receive a fantastic, fluid display for daily usage, and the strong battery life ensures that you can worry-free binge watch the newest Netflix release. The performance is excellent, and you can play demanding games on it with ease.
