Some rumours predict that Apple's upcoming Pro Max model will be called the "iPhone 15 Ultra." More specifically, Bloomberg's Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the reason for the marketing name change could be due to the launch of the Apple Watch Ultra. The addition of "Ultra" not only sounds cool but will also make the iPhone Pro Max more appealing to luxury consumers. For example, the Apple Watch Ultra is an expensive smartwatch, and the name "Ultra" emphasizes its "premium" image to potential consumers. Apple clearly wants the iPhone 15 Pro to be a different product than the entry-level iPhone 15, and changing the name from "Pro Max" to "Ultra" makes perfect sense.
The iPhone 15 Pro will have a USB-C port. With new EU regulations mandating Apple to manufacture iPhone models with USB-C by 2024, Apple has no choice but to include USB-C charging ports in its iPhones. A well-known Apple analyst recently tweeted that all the iPhone 15 models in 2023 will adopt the USB-C connection standard. However, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will also adopt at least USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3. This makes the iPhone 15 Pro the only iPhone in the iPhone 15 series with significantly improved wired transfer speeds. Sadly, the vanilla iPhone 15 models will still stick to USB 2 standards.
The Apple Watch Ultra has a titanium case, so it's possible the new iPhone 15 Pro will also have a durable titanium case. Some new leaks and renders also suggest, the iPhone 15 series will have a rounded back as opposed to the flat on iPhone 14 and the iPhone 13 series. Consider the design language Apple introduced when it released the iPhone 5c. Despite being a budget phone, the iPhone 5C featured rounded edges on the back of the phone. Given that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is going to be a large smartphone, the curved, rounded back edge will make the smartphone more comfortable for users to hold.
There have also been speculations that the iPhone 15 Pro could have a periscope lens. Periscope cameras basically use a combination of mirrors or prisms to bend light. Smartphone makers such as Samsung and Huawei have used the same concept to develop periscope modules for their cameras to improve their zoom range. Apple has been rumoured to be working on a periscope lens for the iPhone lineup for years, but he has yet to bring the technology to the iPhone. If this rumour turns out to be true, Apple will be able to have an optical zoom that is lossless and doesn't affect image quality when zooming. Consider the next high-end iPhone's 10x optical zoom.
That trend could continue next year as iPhone 14 Pro prices have increased in many parts of the world, including India. In a new tweet, a well-known anonymous industry insider, LeaksApplePro, revealed that the iPhone 15 Ultra "will cost significantly more to manufacture than the iPhone 14 Pro Max." We don't yet know the price of the new Pro model, but it's clear that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is likely to be an expensive device.
