Apple introduced its first foldable phone, the iPhone Duo, on September 9. The company launched three phones that day, including two 18 Pro devices and the iPhone Duo. The 18 Pro models are now available in India and globally. The iPhone Duo will go on sale in India starting October 23, aligning with the Diwali shopping season.
The Duo uses a "pocket book" design — a passport-shaped foldable, unlike tablet-style or flip rivals. Closed, it has a 5.4-inch outer screen; unfolded, a 7.6-inch inner display, the largest ever on an iPhone. Both screens share roughly the same 1.42:1 aspect ratio, based on the A-series paper proportions (like A4 paper), so apps resize consistently between screens instead of jumping awkwardly.
At 254g, it's heavier than the iPhone 18 Pro Max, though the weight sits low in the hand.
Does the iPhone Duo have a visible crease? Barely, but not zero. Apple's nano-texture matte finish on the inner display reduces glare and crease visibility significantly — the crease is invisible head-on and hard to spot even at angles — but some hands-on reviewers still detected a faint line under certain lighting.
How does the hinge work? Magnets built into the frame create a satisfying "thud" when closing. Opening, however, requires two hands and deliberate effort — the 100+ part hinge isn't built for one-handed flicking. Apple hasn't published a fold-cycle durability rating (Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8 is rated for 500,000 folds).
Chip: A20 Pro + C2 modem (same as iPhone 18 Pro)
Cameras: Dual 48MP rear (main + ultrawide, 2x optical zoom); no telephoto or variable aperture like the 18 Pro; under-display selfie camera
Security: Touch ID only, no Face ID
Battery: Up to 31 hrs video (inner display), 44 hrs (outer)
Build: Titanium frame, Ceramic Shield, IP68 rated
Connectivity: eSIM only
Storage | Price |
256GB | ₹2,99,900 |
512GB | ₹3,24,900 |
1TB | ₹3,74,900 |
2TB | ₹4,49,900 |
The iPhone Duo delivers a near-invisible crease, a satisfying magnetic close, and flagship-level A20 Pro performance — but trades Face ID and Pro-level cameras for its foldable form. It's a premium bet on Apple's first foldable category entry, priced well above Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold8, and lands in India just ahead of Diwali on October 23.
