Huawei unveiled the updated MatePad Air (2026) at an event in Malaysia, introducing several new features to its tablet lineup. The device now features a 12-inch OLED display, replacing the previous IPS LCD panel. This new screen offers a 144Hz refresh rate and includes Huawei's PaperMatte coating, which reduces reflections and creates a paper-like appearance. These improvements make the tablet more suitable for reading and multimedia use.
The MatePad Air (2026) display stands out with its PaperMatte coating, which minimizes glare and enhances comfort during extended use. The OLED panel delivers brighter visuals and smoother performance thanks to the 144Hz refresh rate. For audio, Huawei has equipped the tablet with a 6-array stereo speaker system, providing an improved listening experience. These features bring the MatePad Air closer to the higher-end MatePad Pro series, which also uses PaperMatte technology.
The tablet runs on the Kirin T93C chipset, paired with either 8GB or 12GB of RAM. Storage is fixed at 256GB, with no other configurations available. According to Huawei, the T93C processor supports several AI-powered Pro features. On the back, the camera setup now includes only a 50MP main camera, as the 8MP ultrawide lens from the previous model has been removed. The front camera is a 12MP shooter, suitable for video calls and selfies.
The MatePad Air (2026) is powered by a 10,100 mAh battery, supporting 66W fast charging. Despite its large 12-inch screen, the tablet remains thin and light, measuring 5.3mm in thickness and weighing 509 grams. This marks a reduction of nearly 50 grams compared to the previous version.
Huawei offers the MatePad Air (2026) in three colors: Sakura Pink, Airy Blue, and White. The tablet supports several accessories, including a detachable keyboard, which is included in most launch bundles. It also works with the M-Pencil Pro, enabling features like Air Mouse, which lets users interact with the screen from a short distance without direct contact.
With these updates, the MatePad Air (2026) aims to provide a more premium experience while maintaining its lightweight and portable design. The combination of display improvements, enhanced audio, and accessory support positions the device as a strong option in Huawei's tablet lineup.
