Read our in-depth review of the OnePlus Nord Buds 4 Pro. Featuring 55dB ANC, Hi-Res LHDC audio, and 30-hour battery life for just ₹3,999.

The OnePlus Nord Buds 4 Pro are the latest wireless earbuds in OnePlus's expanding lineup. Priced at INR 3,999 ($42), these earbuds target budget-conscious buyers while offering premium features such as active noise cancellation (ANC), high-resolution audio, touch controls, and AI translation.

Key Highlights

  • OnePlus Nord Buds 4 Pro priced at INR 3,999 with premium features like ANC and high-resolution audio.
  • Earbuds offer up to 24-bit/96kHz, 900kbps audio but require manual settings for Hi-Res mode.
  • Battery life reaches 7 hours with ANC on and 13 hours with ANC off using AAC codec.
  • ANC effectiveness varies by preset and ear tip quality, with up to 55dB claimed noise reduction.
  • Connectivity is stable but maximum LHDC bitrate is 900kbps, not the advertised 1Mbps.

Design and Build Quality

The Nord Buds 4 Pro introduce a new case design, reminiscent of older Pro models but with a top-opening lid. The earbuds are available in Radiant Gray and Raven Black. Both the case and earbuds feature a matte finish that resists fingerprints. However, the matte texture on the earbuds and the quality of the ear tips may feel less premium, with the ear tips providing a less effective seal compared to higher-end models. Despite this, the earbuds remain comfortable for extended wear and are IP55 rated for dust and splash resistance, though the case is not.

Features and Software

Users can control the earbuds through the HeyMelody app on Android, iOS, and Mac. The app allows customization of ANC levels, audio settings, and touch gestures. Additional features include Game Mode for reduced latency, Spotify Tap for instant playback, and Sound Space for ambient sounds. Hi-Res mode can be enabled for up to 24-bit/96kHz and 900kbps audio, but this requires manual adjustment in Android developer settings. Supported codecs include SBC, AAC, and LHDC over Bluetooth 6.0. The earbuds use 12mm titanium-coated dynamic drivers, which OnePlus claims are 100% more powerful than those in the previous Nord Buds 3 Pro.

Audio Performance and ANC

The Nord Buds 4 Pro deliver a sound profile with strong bass and refined mids and highs. The frequency response is balanced, avoiding unnatural peaks or troughs. Imaging and spatial characteristics are notable, with the option to enable Spatial Audio. Microphone quality is high, with effective background noise reduction during calls. The ANC offers three levels and an auto mode, with a claimed 55dB noise reduction over a 5000Hz range. However, the High preset can introduce high-frequency noise, making it less effective in moderate environments. The effectiveness of ANC is also limited by the quality of the ear tips.

Connectivity and Battery Life

Connection stability is strong, but the earbuds do not reach the advertised 1Mbps bitrate with LHDC, maxing out at 900kbps. OnePlus devices often limit the bitrate to 500kbps, requiring other devices to achieve higher rates. The earbuds do not support aptX Lossless. Battery life is rated at 7 hours with ANC on and 13 hours with ANC off using AAC. With LHDC at 24-bit/96kHz and 900kbps, testing showed 9 hours 17 minutes with ANC off and just over 6 hours with ANC on. The case provides about three additional charges, totaling nearly 30 hours of use.

Conclusion

The OnePlus Nord Buds 4 Pro offer a strong value proposition with good sound quality, comfort, reliable connectivity, and adequate battery life. The build quality and ANC configuration could be improved, but the earbuds remain a competent choice in their price segment.
