Amazon has expanded free access to its Alexa+ AI chatbot for all users in the United States who own compatible Fire TV devices. Previously, only Prime subscribers enjoyed unlimited access to Alexa+ at no additional cost. Now, Amazon offers this service to a wider audience, regardless of Prime membership status.
Owners of current-generation Amazon Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember Smart TVs, and select smart TVs from trusted brands such as Hisense and Panasonic can now use Alexa+ for free. These devices will automatically receive the Alexa+ upgrade. Users do not need to take any action, download software, or subscribe to activate the service.
Amazon ensures that the rollout is seamless. The update brings Alexa+ features directly to compatible devices, allowing users to interact with the AI chatbot without barriers. This move aims to integrate Alexa+ into more homes and devices across the country.
Prime members continue to receive enhanced Alexa+ access. In addition to Fire TV devices, they can use Alexa+ on compatible Echo devices. Prime subscribers also gain access to exclusive features on Fire TV, including Alexa Routines, which help automate daily tasks, and advanced Home Modes for smart home control. They can also access specific Ring camera moments, offering more comprehensive smart home integration.
These added features provide Prime members with greater flexibility and control over their smart devices. The integration with Fire TV and Echo devices strengthens Amazon's ecosystem, offering a unified experience for managing entertainment and smart home functions.
Alexa+ serves as Amazon's answer to other AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. However, Alexa+ is designed to work closely within Amazon's own ecosystem rather than competing as a general-purpose AI assistant. Users can interact with Alexa+ using natural language, ask questions, and receive context-aware responses. The chatbot can handle follow-up questions and maintain conversational context.
On Fire TV devices, Alexa+ can assist users in finding content to watch, move Prime Video playback between devices, and provide on-screen answers related to current programming. In addition, Alexa+ can control smart home devices, making it a versatile tool for managing connected households.
Amazon's expansion of Alexa+ access reflects the company's commitment to enhancing user experience across its product lineup. By making Alexa+ available to more users, Amazon aims to strengthen its position in the smart home and entertainment markets.
