Jio has relaunched its Prime membership programme, offering users a way to lock in current plan prices. This move follows Bharti Airtel's recent discontinuation of several prepaid plans, including the Rs 299 plan, which aimed to shift users towards higher-priced options. Jio, in contrast, will continue to offer the Rs 299 plan to both new and existing customers, but with a new condition.
To secure the existing prices of eligible Jio plans, users must subscribe to the Prime membership. The membership costs Rs 300 and provides a one-year price guarantee. Both prepaid and postpaid customers can join the programme. The main advantage is that members can recharge eligible Jio plans at today's rates until September 5, 2027, even if Jio revises its tariffs during this period.
The Prime membership requires a one-time payment of Rs 300. During the guarantee period, members can continue using eligible Jio plans at their current prices. For example, if the Rs 299 plan's price increases in the future, Prime members can still recharge at the existing rate until the end of the guarantee period.
This benefit focuses on protecting users from potential price hikes, rather than providing immediate savings. However, the guarantee only applies to specific eligible plans. Not every plan on the Jio network is covered by this price lock.
Jio is also offering extra incentives with the Prime membership. Members will receive cashback vouchers worth Rs 600. These include a Rs 300 voucher for a new JioHome or JioPC connection and a Rs 300 voucher for adding a new Jio SIM for a friend or family member.
The Rs 299 prepaid plan remains popular among Jio users. It provides 1.5GB of data per day for 28 days, access to JioHotstar, 5,000GB of JioCloud storage, and Google Gemini Pro. With the Prime membership, users who rely on the Rs 299 plan can continue to receive these benefits without moving to higher-priced options.
Jio Prime membership is available through the MyJio app, Jio.com, Jio Stores, and authorised Jio partner stores. The announcement comes as Airtel has not confirmed whether it will continue to offer similar plans or introduce new pricing. Jio's approach allows users to maintain their preferred plans at current rates for an extended period.
