The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8, identified as model SM-F776U, has received certification from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This certification applies to the US variant of the device, as indicated by the "U" in the model number. The FCC documents reveal several key features and connectivity options for the upcoming foldable phone.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 supports a wide range of 5G bands. These include bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 12, 14, 20, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 38, 41, 48, 66, 70, 71, 77, and 78. This broad support ensures compatibility with most major US carriers and international networks. The device also features Wi-Fi 7, which includes support for the 6GHz frequency band, providing faster and more reliable wireless connections. Additional wireless features include Bluetooth, NFC, and wireless charging. The FCC documents do not specify the power rating for wireless charging.
The Additional Capabilities section in the FCC filing lists DisplayPort support. This feature allows users to connect the phone to external displays for enhanced productivity or entertainment.
The Galaxy Z Flip8 includes NB-NTN B255 connectivity. NB-NTN stands for NarrowBand Non-Terrestrial Network, which enables communication with satellites using the B255 band. This feature is notable as it allows the device to connect to satellite networks, similar to the satellite communication support found in the Pixel 10 series. Such capability can provide connectivity in areas without traditional cellular coverage.
Current reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Flip8 will offer only a limited set of upgrades compared to its predecessor. Samsung is expected to introduce some new features, but the cameras, battery, and charging specifications are not likely to change. The device will have different chipsets depending on the region. Units sold in Europe and South Korea will use the Exynos 2600 chipset, while models sold in other markets will feature a Snapdragon chipset. The exact Snapdragon model has not been confirmed yet.
The FCC certification confirms that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 will support extensive 5G bands, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, NFC, wireless charging, and DisplayPort. The addition of satellite communication via NB-NTN B255 positions the device as one of the few foldable phones with this capability. Regional chipset variations will continue, with Exynos for Europe and South Korea and Snapdragon for other regions.
